AGR Drilling Services Celebrates 100 Wells Drilled with the Riser less Mud Return System (RMR™)
21.12.2009
In October this year AGR Drilling Services celebrated 100 wells drilled with its unique, patented Riser less Mud Recovery system (RMR™).
From semi-submersible to jack-up drilling rigs, water depths from 40m to 1500m, the North Sea to Western Australia, and now 100 wells, there is no doubt that the RMR™ system is proven technology bringing significant benefits to its customers and is here to stay. Not only is the RMR™ system the one and only of its kind but it is changing decades of traditional drilling practice.
Simplistically the RMR™ system saves rig days through improved drilling operations and risk mitigation. In addition the RMR™ is being increasingly used to minimise environmental impact. There is no doubt with higher rig rates , smaller fields and deeper water activity there is significantly more focus on cost reduction. At the same time there is a clear trend towards reduced environmental impact.
Tom Hasler, EVP Drilling services, comments “Like all new technologies the uptake time is always longer than one anticipates. However there can be no doubt with 100 successful wells to speak of that the RMRTM has proven itself as a solution to many different challenges experienced by our clients during top-hole drilling.
The earliest applications of the system were to mitigate the risk of shallow hazards by using engineered mud in the top-hole, then our clients started to include the RMR™ during the well design phase to improve top-hole quality and reduce casing costs, the third and fastest growing application is to eliminate discharge of drilling fluids for environmental reasons.
With the completion of our 100th well AGR consider that the RMR™ a truly established system. At the same time the RMR™ system is seen the entry point into improved drilling practices and is the first of a suit of technologies to be introduced by AGR Drilling Services over the coming years. We continue to look forward to working with our clients and creating even more value in diverse and innovative ways.“
