Tubing and flange inspection
The aging carbon steel piping in the North Sea has now reached the end of its expected service life.
The high pressure systems connected to production manifolds is a specific problem. Erosion in critical areas is now causing leaks at an alarming rate. There is no present non-intrusive inspection method available and normal visual Inspection (NVI) is seen as the only viable inspection method.
The NVI inspection can only be performed during a shut down period which limits the volume of the flanges which can be inspected, and results in time consuming heavy mechanical operations. An NDT method to detect seal face degradation provides both HSE and economical advantages compared to Normal Visual Inspection.
AGR now have a solution for flange inspections with Phased Array on the following installations:
- Statfjord A
- Statfjord B
- Statfjord C
- Ekofisk
Results show all defects observed visually were detected by phased array inspection.
