Deepwater Riserless Mud Recovery field trial site confirmed – Malaysia 2008

23.10.2007

The steering committee for AGR Group’s RMR Demo 2000 Deepwater JIP has unanimously decided on Shell Miri as the field trial site. Subject to phase two contracts being put in place, the trial is scheduled to commence mid 2008.

Sveinung Olsen, AGR Group’s Executive Vice President Drilling Services, commented, “The JIP steering committee’s confirmation of a field trial site is an exciting step in progressing the testing of our RMR’s technology at challenging depths. The JIP were initially reviewing possible sites in the Gulf of Mexico but when an opening in Malaysia was presented by the JIP Partners, we took it. We are all very confident the site will provide equally valid results as in the GOM”.

Roger Stave, President AGR Subsea Inc in Houston commented, “This is the next point along the path of  exploring the depth capacity of our cutting edge technology, which has already proven itself at up to 400 metres deep. We are also pleased to have such excellent partners on this journey with us.”

Riserless Mud Recovery (RMRÔ) technology is designed to re-circulate and reuse the drilling fluids that are needed when drilling top hole sections of a well. Benefits include cost savings from reduced operating time and optimized well architecture as well as reduced discharges to the environment. More than 50 wells using RMRÔ  have been drilled in the Caspian Sea, offshore Sakhalin Island, Australia, the North Sea, and the Barents Sea.
