AGR was awarded the contract to provide Well Project Management services for an exploration well offshore the west coast of Morocco for Genel Energy.

Overcoming project-critical logistical challenges to mobilise an exploration well in Morocco

Knowing how to navigate regional importation processes can hold the key to ensuring that any well exploration is completed on time and within budget.

This proved true on a project at a well offshore the west coast of Morocco, where AGR’s project management skills were vital in complying with customs and importation regulations when supplying personnel, equipment and materials required to carry out the work.

The Challenge

Project success depended on customs expertise and project management nouse

AGR’s Project Management team was awarded a contract to deliver Well Management services for Genel Energy’s Nour Well Sidi Moussa 1. But with its supply base set up in Agadir (Morocco), the project presented several complicating factors.

These included:

  • A complex customs and importation process
  • Limited local infrastructure and services
  • Sharing berth and storage facilities with multiple operators

The Solution

Careful planning and resourceful supplier management

For this project, our client formed part of an operator consortium, which meant that AGR’s Integrated Logistics Solutions team was required to work with the other operators’ suppliers, who were based in Morocco.

The quality, robustness and reliability of logistics processes, which had to ensure the base, storage and quayside facilities were up to standard to support the well, was a key focus of ours.

Therefore, an audit was carried out, to identify the potential problem areas in these arrangements. It helped us make well-informed recommendations and develop a comprehensive plan for our client.

AGR worked remotely with a range of service providers to establish shipping requirements and manageable timeframes, performing personnel, equipment and materials movements daily with the use of helicopters and vessels.

At the demobilisation stage we took responsibility for removing equipment to Aberdeen (UK), Tenerife and Las Palmas (Spain). Our logistics experts also planned and executed the rig move from Morocco to Tenerife.

The Outcome

A safe and successful project accomplished, despite the complications

AGR was selected for this project for its three decades of experience in providing outstanding project management and logistical solutions globally. And our track record was key in delivering the following services:

  • Detailed planning and coordination in the preparatory stages, through to the demobilisation and wrap up phase
  • A full understanding of importation complexities and meticulous execution in overcoming numerous customs challenges
  • Remote operations experience, including logistics base set up and materials management
  • Operational HSE compliance expertise
  • A tenacious work ethic in meeting all commitments to the client
  • A project accomplished on schedule and within budget
