Safety Coach Job Description

Job Function:
  • Coach the crew with respect to:
    • observation technique and reporting
    • risk understanding, barrier understanding, major risk understanding
    • current Management System
  • Assist the Drilling Supervisor in all aspects of the daily HSE work
  • Spend most of the time where work is being performed and where the crew is located. Avoid as much as possible routine work or administrative duties that commit you to an office desk. 

Reporting to:

The Safety Coach reports to Drilling Supervisor but has a free and independent position.
 
Main responsibilities:
  • Assist rig management and the operator in promotion of understanding safety requirements, systems and procedures among rig personnel and third party contractors
  • Identify hazardous conditions and hazardous work practices and contribute to elimination of these factors together with the crew and reduce the risk acceptance level
  • Identify main areas of concern onboard and contribute to find constructive solution to improve HSE performance
  • Contribute to increasing personnel awareness of risks so that they can make their own risk assessment before as well as during the performance of work.
  • Assist crew in finding safe solutions in the daily work routines.
  • Contribute to safety work by following up and stimulating use of the rig owner Management System.
  • Attend safety meetings, SJAs, crew meetings, etc.
  • Fully support the rig operator in the continued operation of any behavioral based observation system and other HSE related campaigns, encouraging active participation among all personnel on the rig.
  • Participate in Risk Assessments and accident/incident investigation both on the rig and onshore.
  • Continue to further develop and maintain a ‘HSE Culture’ onboard the rig. 

Qualifications:
  • Min. 7 years operational experience from drilling rig(s)
  • Previous experience as a Safety Coach. General experience with HSE related matters may compensate for this requirement
  • Knowledge and understanding of HSE tools, methods, practices and principles
  • Good knowledge of spoken and written Norwegian and English
