Our team are acting as technical advisor to Norwegian state-owned Gassnova
. AGR’s oil and gas exploration and production background and associated technical knowledge is being utilised as part of the Norwegian government’s huge investment to develop the technology for capturing, transporting and storing CO2 to support the nation’s environmental targets.
AGR has amassed significant experience in identifying, assessing and testing the geological conditions needed to store billions of tonnes of CO2 in the North Sea.
The company was reservoir and wells advisor to the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) during the competitive tendering process for CCS in the United Kingdom. AGR has also been involved in National Grid Carbon’s Humber Project for CCS in the southern North Sea since 2010. The AGR team has delivered petrophysical, geophysical, geomechanical and reservoir engineering support and modelling during the conceptual design phase of a development programme to dispose of between 2.5 – 40 million tonnes per year of CO2 in to the Bunter sandstone formation in the proposed project area.
In another project in 2009 - 10 AGR provided an assessment of the risks associated with CO2 leakage from injection wells – covering issues including monitoring, detection, and mitigation – on Shell’s Goldeneye field.
AGR’s CCS work with Gassnova began with a £5.4 million four-year contract award in 2012 to provide technical consultancy and advise on strategy for the potential development of CCS projects in Norway. AGR is continuing to work with Gassnova in an advisory role as they work towards selecting a technical concept with the aim of developing a full-scale CCS demonstration facility by 2020. The AGR reservoir team will provide technical support across geoscience, reservoir and drilling disciplines in addition to facilities and cost engineering. The team will help evaluate approaches to achieving CCS solutions that will go on to Front End Engineering Design (FEED) phase.
