Excellent HSE performance delivers Cara well

The Cara well for ENGIE E&P was completed ahead of time, below budget and no major incidents.
AGR was assigned by ENGIE E&P to drill a cost effective wildcat Cara well near the Gjøa field in the northern part of the Norwegian North Sea. The Cara well with drilling operations spanning 71 days turned out to be the 3rd largest oil discovery on NCS in 2016.

The location of the well was very close to the shore (35 km) and in a busy marine traffic zone. As many as 146 passing vessels were contacted to ensure safe passage.

The right well design and the right contracting strategies were central to this project’s success. A lump sum approach for service providers enabled ENGIE E&P Norge to predict and compare costs.

Two buoys equipped with AIS (AutomaticIdentification System) were deployed north and south of the rig to provide early warning to vessels nearby and SafePath was contracted to efficiently monitor the marine traffic surrounding the Cara location around the clock.

One of the key enablers to completing the project successfully was Well Testing competence for one and dual zone. AGR applied its bespoke Well Delivery Process and the client benefitted from close collaboration between all teams involved.
