AGR delivers Wisting Central and Wisting Alternative in Arctic Barents Sea

AGR were assigned by OMV to drill two wells on the Leiv Eiriksson rig in the Arctic Barents Sea. At the time of drilling, the wells were located in the northern-most area with no previous drilling history.
The Hoop area, where the wells were drilled, had seen little exploration at the time of drilling. In addition, the availability of relevant offset data was limited to the AGR well construction and operational team. The geographical location of the wells (distance from the supply base) and its environmental conditions required increased focus and extended amount of efforts invested into securing safe operations.

  • Environmentally sensitive area with harsh weather conditions and icing possibility
  • Limited offset well data available
  • Unexplored area for drilling activity
  • Extremely shallow reservoir requiring enhanced focus on well control
  • Logistical challenges due to geographical location

  • Strategically compiled team with the experience from shallow reservoir drilling resulting in two wells drilled without any discharge to the environment
  • After 95 operational days in total, wells permanently plugged back
  • AGR's Safety and Environmental Coaches present on the rig secured the highest standards of safety. The operations used as reference case for other operations in the Hoop area
  • Permits delivered in compliance with environmental and legislative requirements
  • On time delivery of the project
